"So right now we’re going out to knock doors in central Palm Beach County to talk to voters about Amendment four, which is on our ballot here in Florida on November 5th. And basically, if we pass Amendment four with 60%, it’s going to do two things. Number one, it’s going to codify reproductive rights within Florida state’s constitution. And number two is it’s going to repeal Florida’s current extreme six week abortion ban that has basically no exceptions for rape, incest or human trafficking."

"The work that we do really breaks through the political spectrum. Republicans appreciate what we’re doing. Democrats, unaffiliated voters. We’re really giving a voice to disenfranchised and marginalized voters, which is why most Latinos in the state of Florida now are currently registered as unaffiliated."

"In central Palm Beach County, we have 233,000 target voters that we are attempting to reach to talk to about Amendment four. Now, 201,000 of those voters are under the age of 35, which is what we qualify as a youth voter. And so it’s very important with us to engage with these voters because these are not a high turnout group."

STORYLINE:
Abortion-rights groups are courting Latino voters through door-knocking and Spanish-language ads.
They say the fast-growing group could determine the outcome of abortion ballot measures across the U.S., particularly in states such as Arizona and Florida with large Latino populations.
Organizers say Latinos’ views are are often misunderstood and oversimplified by people who assume they are all Catholic and, therefore, anti-abortion.
But like other Americans, Latinos have an array of personal feelings and connections to the issue that can be impacted by religion, culture, country of origin and other things.
In Florida, abortion is illegal after the first six weeks of pregnancy under a law that took effect May 1.
Alex Berrios says efforts to reach Latino voters often hinge on one-on-one conversations. Berrios is the co-founder of the grassroots Florida group Mi Vecino, or “my neighbor.”
The November ballot measure would legalize abortion until fetal viability.
