STORYLINE:
Residents of Luxembourg expressed mixed views to the upcoming Pope Francis visit, as preparations continued in the capital on Wednesday.
The Vatican confirmed on Monday that plans remain in place for Francis to visit Belgium and Luxembourg.
Francis is to visit Luxembourg on Thursday and then spend the rest of the week in Belgium, ending with a Mass in Brussels on Sunday.
Jean-Paul Klein, 52, a worker from Luxembourg, expressed dismay at Francis’ visit, saying he doesn’t "expect any more reforms from this pope".
He added that he will watch Francis’ welcoming ceremony from his home due to possible road closure and traffic.
Christine, another resident who did not give her last name, was concerned about the pope’s health.
"I think the visit will be relatively stressful for the Pope," she said.
"It probably won’t be very easy for him either," she added.
The 87-year-old pope has had a packed schedule since returning from an 11-day journey through Asia on Sept. 13.
It was the longest and farthest trip of his pontificate.
Francis has had several health problems in recent years.
In 2023, he spent three days in the hospital receiving intravenous antibiotics to treat a respiratory infection.
