“I heard the sirens from my house, and suddenly they said that Jad Market, it’s this supermarket, which belongs to a friend of mine, was hit. I came here immediately to see what exactly happened, then I came also to the wall and saw this hole behind me that opened inside the wall, and from down there, there is a hole in the ground, and as a result of the shockwave of the interceptions or the rocket or its warhead, I’m not an expert in this but I saw here lots of damage, the shelves fell down, the owner of the shop and his sons were shocked.”

“This morning there was a siren in Tamra city, and after the siren ended we began assessing damage inside Tamra, including shrapnel that fell and hit houses, businesses and vehicles. Luckily, there were no physical injuries, but there have been victims of trauma in the city.”

“There aren’t public shelters in Tamra, there aren’t protected public spaces, the city was built in a historical way, and I think more than 70% of the buildings in Tamra lack protected spaces, therefore our instructions are that you search in the city, in the house, a shelter in the most protected place in the house.”

STORYLINE:
A supermarket in Israel’s Arab city of Tamra was damaged on Tuesday following overnight missile strikes by Hezbollah.
It was not immediately clear whether the market had been damaged by a rocket that penetrated Israel’s missile defense system or by shrapnel falling from an interception.
Tamra is a city in northern Israel where the majority of residents are Palestinian citizens of Israel. Fear has run through the shelter-less community since tensions began to intensify on Israel’s northern border.
"I came here immediately to see what exactly happened," said Jamal Diab, a friend of the market’s owner. "I saw here lots of damage, the shelves fell down, the owner of the shop and his sons were shocked.”
There were no physical injuries, according to the city’s mayor Mousa Abu Rumi, but there have been "victims of trauma."
The mayor also told AP reporters that there are no public rocket shelters in Tamra.
"More than 70% of the buildings in Tamra lack protected spaces," he said, adding that residents have been instructed to search their homes and buildings for "the most protected place" they can find in the event of a rocket siren.
Israel and Hezbollah appear on the verge of war again after tensions have steadily escalated over the last 11 months. Hezbollah has been firing rockets, missiles and drones into northern Israel in solidarity with the Palestinians and its ally Hamas, a fellow Iran-backed militant group, in Gaza.
