1. SOUNDBITE (English) Angela Alsobrooks, (D) Maryland Senate Candidate:
“The stakes of this election. I think about my 19-year-old daughter who’s in college. She’s a sophomore, and she literally has fewer rights in this moment than her grandmother and mother. So, when we think about reproductive freedom for our daughters, not just abortion care, but think about contraception and IVF and the efforts really to roll back the rights of women. We also think about gun violence, which has become, I think, a really sad story in America, which is that the number one way that children die is through gun violence. So having sensible gun legislation that helps us to keep our kids safe is one of the issues that’s at stake in this election and also how we handle the economy, whether it is done in such a way where we have tax policies that favor the middle class, or whether we continue to favor big corporations who pay fewer taxes in most instances than nurses and firefighters. But the difference between the outlook in the future in the two parties couldn’t be any more different.”

2. SOUNDBITE (English) Angela Alsobrooks, (D) Maryland Senate Candidate:
“You know, I think Marylanders get it. I think they certainly understand what having the majority in the Senate means. They recognize that quite literally, and this is something that Senator Cardin often says. he says, you know, I’ve been in the Senate when we were in the minority and I’ve been in the Senate when we’ve been in the majority, and it is it is absolutely the case that whoever is in the majority controls the agenda.”

3. SOUNDBITE (English) Angela Alsobrooks, (D) Maryland Senate Candidate:
“And so having the majority means it is very, very important. And it’s and it’s what’s at stake in this election. We think also about electing Kamala Harris. She has to have a Senate majority to be able to get things done.”

4. SOUNDBITE (English) Angela Alsobrooks, (D) Maryland Senate Candidate:
“Yeah. I mean, you know, I think my opponent’s record is very clear where abortion care is concerned, as you’ve mentioned. Just two years ago, which was very recent, he vetoed important abortion care legislation in the state of Maryland. And when he was overridden, he withheld the funding to train abortion care providers in the state until Governor Moore came into office. I’ll be highlighting the fact that when we think about gun violence and the real need to pass sensible legislation, he vetoed legislation that would have created a sensible waiting period for long guns and then outright refused to sign a ban against ghost guns in our state. And so those are parts of the record that I think are relevant. I think as we think about Supreme Court justices, which have really been, in my opinion, one of the ways that Donald Trump has done the most damage in our country is taking over that Supreme Court. Well, you know, my opponent praised Donald Trump’s Supreme Court appointments, saying that Donald Trump had appointed, quote, incredible Supreme Court justices.”
