Eric Adams is the first New York City mayor in history to be indicted while in office. According to the indictment, Adams accepted free travel, business class upgrades, and other freebies from the government of Turkey. The indictment says the freebies included stays at a $3,000-a-night hotel in Istanbul. In exchange, Adams is accused of arranging for a Turkish consulate building in Manhattan to open without a fire inspection despite being unfit for occupation. Adams denies any wrongdoing and says he will fight the charges.
