(Reporter: Can we ask who you voted for?)
Absolutely. I am one of those childless cat daddies that you’ve heard and we are going to make sure democracy survives.”

STORYLINE:
In-person voting for the 2024 U.S. presidential election has begun in three states — Virginia, South Dakota and Minnesota, the home state of Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz.

The first ballots being cast Friday in person come with just over six weeks left before Election Day on Nov. 5.

About a dozen more states will follow with early in-person voting by mid-October.

In Minnesota, Carly Witherell, a physician assistant, said by voting early she hopes to push others to do the same.

“I think life gets really busy, and I, this was a very big priority in my life, and also being able to vote early kind of helps me push others to voter early as well," Witherell said.

Across the country, local election directors are beefing up their security to keep their workers and polling places safe while also ensuring that ballots and voting procedures won’t be tampered with. Most election officials are expecting high turnout through the final day of voting in November.

In Anoka, Minnesota, Vietnam War Veteran Eugene Otteson said he’s voting for Donald Trump and JD Vance.

“Well I voted this time for Trump, not that I like him or think. He’s a business person and I like somebody who can run a business, and if he can run a business, and he proved he can run the country you know because he did it. With Kamala, you still don’t know what we she stands for,” Otteson said.
