Israel says it has struck as many as 1,300 Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, including strikes in the capital Beirut. Lebanon says more than 350 people been killed and more than 1,000 wounded in one day. Among the dead are 24 children. An official says the death toll is the highest since the Israel-Hezbollah war in 2006. Thousands have fled from their homes in southern Lebanon to escape the bombardment, with heavy traffic on roads leading to Beirut. Israel’s defense minister says operations will continue until people can return to evacuated areas near the border with Lebanon. Hezbollah says it has launched rockets at two Israeli bases and will fight on until a ceasefire is secured in Gaza. The US is sending more troops to the region as the conflict escalates.
