“In Hadersdorf the situation is still tense you could say. We have a problem with a small creek. The natural dam, which usually keeps the creek from spilling over, got to its breaking point and water started to leak over the dam on both sides – at the beginning only on fields next to it. We can’t rule out that the water continues to spread. But at the moment I have to say the water levels have receded a bit. So we have a bit of leeway.”
10. Wide of Blackhawk helicopter transporting sandbag
11. Wide of big sandbags on dam
12. Close of sandbags
13. SOUNDBITE (German) Gernot Rohrhofer, Krems district firefighter’ spokesperson:
“We are making sure that the dam can’t burst, that it remains stable. We have support from the Austrian army. A Blackhawk helicopter, who is in use for carrying heavy loads, has been in Hadersdorf since yesterday evening, but had to stop because of the darkness. It started flying again this morning – it is bringing one “big bag” after the other to the dam. “Big bags” are colloquially speaking simply big bags filled with gravel. These are being put next to the dam to reinforce it.”
14. Wide of flooded road
15. Close of sign reading “Hadersdorf” with sandbags in background
16. Wide of sandbags and statue of saint
17. Mid of trash can with umbrella inside
18. Wide of people standing next sandbags

STORYLINE:
Firefighters in Austria say the situation remains ‘tense’ after massive floods pounded Central Europe on Monday.

In Hadersdorf, a town in the district of Krems-Land in Lower Austria, firefighters said they were working to ensure a dam was not breached, using large sandbags brought in by helicopter.

Hadersdorf is located downstream of the Ottenstein reservoir which was close to spilling over on Sunday night.

Should the authorities be forced to release more water into the Kamp river, villages in the valley are in danger of being flooded.

After flooding hit Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland and Romania, it might impact Slovakia and Hungary next as a result of a low-pressure system from northern Italy that has been dumping record rainfall in the region since Thursday.
