Germany reintroduced temporary border checks with Belgium and the Netherlands, amongst other countries today, extending border controls to all nine of its neighbors. The German government says the move is necessary to control the high number of migrants reaching the country and they will continue for at least the next six months. But critics say the controls threaten the EU’s Schengen area rules on freedom of movement.
