“Water levels in rivers and lakes are critically low and the situation is equally bad underground where the supplies of drinking water are quite low. This is all due to a prolonged drought and historically high temperatures, unlike anything we’ve seen in 135 years of keeping records. The situation is very worrying”

“The hydrological situation of the drainage basin of HET is, to put it that way, less favorable than foreseen based on the historical average precipitation levels. Over the first 8 and obviously soon to be 9 months (Bileca Lake) accumulated the amount of water it on average accumulates in the (first) 6 months (of a year). Bileca lake elevation is currently 360 metres, which means that it dipped by 7 metres below the level set in our energy balance.”

“Where we’re standing right now is usually submerged in water, when the lake level is high, you cannot see any of this, it is all underwater. There is usually a nice beach over there, but the water level fell sharply this year and it is very difficult for swimmers and others to approach the lake. Now it looks like something from another planet.”

“Global warming directly impacts the level of water in the Jablanica Lake. When the lake falls (prematurely), we are forced to invest much more than should be the case. It takes a lot of money and effort to maintain the Jablanica Lake shoreline, it eats away at our profits because we are forced to reinvest a large share of what we earn just to keep the business going, let alone expanding it.”
