(Reporter: “This amazing thriller, kind of like an adult version of ‘Lord of the Flies.’”
“I’ve literally been saying that to everyone. Like, I feel like it’s an adult Lord of the Flies.’”
(Reporter: “What was that like? And what did you learn about yourself from making this movie?”)
“Oh my goodness. I mean, it was such an amazing challenge because we had to work with the elements in such a different way. I’ve never really had to actually build my home that my character’s living in. But between Daniel and I, we actually built the house that you see, the gardens that you see. Daniel just was absolutely incredible, literally building the rocks and planting everything. So, it was quite a physical, challenging journey. I was not expecting that.”

“It was a great experience, a lot of fun and also very challenging. Australia in summer is not easy, but I had the best ast with me, so it was – this was a great ensemble and Ron put it together so well. We had a great time rehearsing and getting to know each other and the characters. And it was it was great. It was really good.”

“Who said that?”
(Reporter: “That’s what I heard, that you cooked for some of the cast.”
“Yeah, I like cooking for people – especially Cuban food – so that’s what we did.”

“Interesting comparison, but yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And interesting that, you know, that’s on the one hand, it is that period story about these real characters who did the impossible back then, you know, and were so bold and, you know, traveling to the end of the world to escape the horrors of civilization, trying to establish their own Eden, only then realizing that it’s difficult to create a new Paradise when you don’t get along with the others. And then it made me think that it’s so incredibly modern as well. It will resonate with people who have, you know, had experiences during the pandemic and who have all also fantasized about, you know, leaving everything behind and start anew.”

STORYLINE:
Sydney Sweeney and Ana De Armas premiered their new film, “Eden” at the Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday.
Starring Sweeny, De Armas and Daniel Brühl, according to the film’s logline, the movie follows a group of people who desire change, and they leave everything behind and set their futures on the harsh landscape of the Galapagos.
Directed by Ron Howard, the film also stars Vanessa Kirby, Jude Law, Felix Kammerer and Toby Wallace. TIFF runs through Sept. 15.
