STORYLINE:
After years of hiatus due to the Syrian civil war, Expo Syria 2024, an exhibition highlighting Syrian exports, officially opened on Wednesday at the Damascus countryside Fairgrounds.
This inaugural event represents a significant milestone, coming after a period of turmoil that has severely impacted Syria’s production and service sectors.
Over five days, the fair showcased a diverse range of Syrian industries, all poised to compete in regional and global markets.
Spanning over 50,000 square meters, Expo Syria 2024 features 600 companies from various sectors, including industrial, food, textile, agricultural, and artisanal.
Mohamad Sabbagh, a Syrian businessman, highlighted that these visits allow Arab businessmen to experience Syrian products firsthand, helping to rebuild their trust and reestablish Syrian goods in the global market.
He expressed optimism about achieving this goal.
According to the organizers, Expo Syria 2024 has attracted substantial international interest, with around 3,000 visitors from outside Syria and approximately 2,000 businesspeople from Arab and European countries.
Attendees include representatives from Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan, the Gulf countries, Yemen, Egypt, Tunisia, and Libya.
Moufeed Abbas, an Iraqi businessman, described the Arab presence at the fair as "notable," pointing out that "In previous exhibitions, participation was limited to Iraq, Jordan, and Egypt, but this time we’ve seen representatives from all Arab countries."
Expo Syria 2024 represents a significant effort to revitalize Syria’s economy and restore the country’s position in the global market after 13 years of war.
