STORYLINE:
Pope Francis is due to arrive Monday in East Timor following visits to Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.

His trip, that will end in Singapore, in his longest, farthest and most difficult trip of his pontificate, given his myriad health problems.

Banners and billboards filled the streets of East Timor’s seaside capital Dili to welcome the Pope in the impoverished nation of 1.3 million people. Francis will remain in the country until Sept. 11.

The detailed program for Pope Francis’ visit to East Timor, known also as Timor Leste, begins with an official welcome upon arrival at the President Nicolau Lobato International Airport in the afternoon.

A welcome ceremony will take place outside the Presidential Palace, followed by a courtesy visit to President Jose Ramos-Horta.

The Holy Father will hold a meeting with local authorities, civil society and the diplomatic corps in the hall of the Presidential Palace, where he will deliver a speech.

On Tuesday morning, the Pope will visit the children with disabilities of the "Alma Sisters" School. He is also scheduled to meet with bishops and other members of the national Catholic Church at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and will meet with members of the Society of Jesus at the Apostolic Nunciature.

The peak of the visit will be the celebration of Holy Mass on the grounds of Taci Tolu, which will begin in the afternoon and during which Pope Francis will give the homily.

On Wednesday, Pope Francis will meet with young people at the Dili Convention Center where he will give a speech. It will follow by a farewell ceremony at Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport, followed by departure for Singapore at noon.
