Netanyahu insists again that Israel won’t give up control of Gaza-Egypt border | DW News

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has again insisted that Israeli troops must remain in control of the Gaza Strip’s border with Egypt.

Netanyahu said that the area, known as the Philadelphi Corridor, was an essential smuggling route used by Hamas, which was behind the October 7th terrorist attacks.

Netanyahu stressed that controlling the corridor was a condition for a permanent ceasefire.

Hamas has repeatedly made clear that it won’t accept any cease-fire that doesn’t involve the withdrawal of all Israeli forces from Gaza.

Pressure for a deal has been mounting on the Israeli government, both at home and abroad, especially since the recovery of six hostages who Israel says were killed hours before their bodies were found, over the weekend.
