STORYLINE:
Thousands of mourners gathered on Thursday for the funeral of four Palestinians killed in an airstrike in the West Bank refugee camp of Al-Faraa the previous day.
It comes as Israeli forces launched a large operation in the occupied West Bank overnight on Tuesday and into Wednesday, killing at least 10 Hamas militants, carrying out arrests and sealing off the volatile city of Jenin.
The Israeli army said it had withdrawn from Al-Faraa early on Thursday but was continuing operations in other areas of the West Bank, including Jenin and Tulkarem.
Lt. Col. Nadav Shoshani, said on Wednesday Israeli forces killed three militants in an airstrike in Tulkarem and four in an airstrike in Al-Faraa.
Shoshani stated that another five suspected militants were arrested and that the raids were the first stage of a larger operation.
"There is no God but Allah," the mourners chanted during the funeral of the four who were killed in Al-Faraa.
The ongoing operation was among the largest in the West Bank in months, and a reminder that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict extends far beyond the war in Gaza that began with Hamas’ October 7 attack.
Israel says it is rooting out West Bank militants to prevent attacks, while Palestinians fear it intends to broaden the war and expel them from territories they want for a future state.
