"We face several health problems, including sudden epidemics such as diarrhoea, fever, and viruses in general. Recently, we have received many cases of severe diarrhoea, with confirmed cholera cases during the past six months. We have a special centre for diarrhoea to isolate all cases coming from various governorates on the western coast due to the epidemics that have recently spread in Yemen in general."

"The cases of watery diarrhoea among children that reach us daily range from approximately 10 to 15, particularly severe cases. Among the elderly, we receive 5 to 10 cases per day. We also receive around 10 to 15 additional cases of severe diarrhoea and malnutrition from nearby districts. In 2023, the number of malnutrition cases admitted to the hospital reached 1,010."

STORYLINE:
Famine is looming in four Yemeni districts after instances of hunger have rapidly surged among children in areas controlled by the internationally recognized government, a report by international experts said.
All 117 districts in government-controlled areas are expected to suffer from “serious” levels of acute malnutrition.
Among them, the four districts — Mawza and Mocha in Taiz province, and Hays and Khawkhah in Hodeida province — are projected to slip into famine between July and October this year, according to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification, or IPC.
At a hospital in Taiz, a doctor examined a two-year-old boy, his ribs showing due to malnutrition.
"He has been sick since he was born. Sometimes with diarrhoea, sometimes with fever," his mother said.
"Sometimes we treat him, and sometimes we can’t. Sometimes we get him food, and sometimes we can’t. Sometimes we find something, and sometimes we don’t."
