STORYLINE:
The families of hostages held by militants in the Gaza Strip have gathered along the border with the besieged territory on Thursday, shouting messages they hope will reach their captive loved ones.

"Hersh, Hersh, it’s Mama, Hersh. It’s Day 328. We are all here, all the families of the remaining 107 hostages," screamed Rache Goldberg-Polinl, the mother of hostage Hersh Goldberg-Polin.

"We are working day and night, and we will never stop,” Polin added.

Israel’s hostage crisis began when Hamas-backed militants attacked southern Israel on Oct. 7, killing around 1,200 people and abducting about 250 more.

The militants are still holding 107 hostages, about a third of whom are believed to be dead, after most of the rest were released during a weeklong cease-fire in November.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has faced intense criticism from families of the hostages and much of the Israeli public for not yet reaching a deal with Hamas to bring them home.

Hamas hopes to trade the hostages for a lasting cease-fire, the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza and the release of a large number of Palestinian prisoners, including high-profile militants.
