Pause in fighting holds as Gaza children get polio vaccine | BBC News

Thousands have begun queueing in Gaza as a massive polio vaccination campaign for children is under way.

A health official in Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry says the localised humanitarian pause in fighting, essential to the vaccine rollout, is holding.

The UN’s World Health Organization says it aims to vaccinate 640,000 children, weeks after the first polio case was detected in Gaza in 25 year.

To be effective, the World Health Organization (WHO) says at least 90% of children under 10 must be immunised in a short time frame.
