3. Russia-24 news bulletin, presenter Maria Sittel saying (Russian):
"Pavel Durov will spend at least 48 hours more in custody. The Telegram founder is now in one of the Paris pre-trial detention centres. And today, the whole world is waiting on an official comment from the French prosecutor’s office. The team of the messenger stated that it complies with all laws of the EU, and all allegations are absurd. The fact that the arrest is politically motivated is noted in the west too. The Italian Vice Prime Minister (Matteo) Salvini said the next one whom they will try to silence will be Elon Musk."
STORYLINE:
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Monday refused to comment on reports of Durov’s arrest in France.

“We still don’t know what exactly Durov is being accused of. We haven’t heard any official statements on that matter. Before we say something, we need to wait till the situation becomes clearer,” Peskov told reporters on Monday during his daily conference call.

“Let’s wait until the charges are announced – if they are announced, if it comes to that. After that we can make some preliminary conclusions,” the official said.

Pavel Durov is being held on an arrest warrant alleging his platform has been used for money laundering, drug trafficking and other offenses.

Durov is a dual citizen of France and Russia.

Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of social media site X who’s called himself a “free speech absolutist” in the past, posted ”#freePavel” in support of Durov following the arrest.
