People in Japan are hunkering down in the face of the strongest typhoon to hit the country this year.
Typhoon Shanshan has torn into Japan’s southern Kyushu island and is expected to head north over the coming days. Over 55,000 people have been evacuated and hundreds of flights grounded. Authorities have issued the highest level alert for extreme winds and potential storm surges.
