4. SOUNDBITE (English) Robert Telles, defendant:
“So what I have found in doing my research on Mr. Wolfson’s campaign reports is that he’s got people who donate to him year over year. So basically, it’s a subscription to for a get out of jail.”
Christopher Hamner, Prosecutor: “Now. So now the DA’s in on it, too”
Telles: “I’m just telling you what I found when I’ve researched. And you can look at the Nevada Secretary of State’s website to do the research yourself.”
Hamner: “Well, I’ve got you there. So I want to ask you, is DA Stephen Wolfson in on the conspiracy to have Jeff German murdered? Is that what you’re saying?”
Telles: “I don’t know about that, but I certainly know he turned a blind eye toward crime.”
Hamner: “So the answer to my question yes or no?”
Telles: “I don’t know.”
Hamner: “Ok”

6. SOUNDBITE (English) Robert Telles, defendant:
“And there was a photo that we were shown that showed a video camera that was right across the way from Mr. Gorman’s house. You know, I do not engage in crime, but if I wanted to do something while not being caught on camera, and I knew there was a camera right across the way, I wouldn’t do it.”

8. SOUNDBITE (English) Robert Telles, defendant:
“You now also, I did not buy a straw hat. I did not buy a construction shirt. I was fully investigated on my finances. I believe that if if I had that, you would see evidence of that.

STORYLINE:
A former Democratic politician on trial for murder has told a Nevada jury that he didn’t kill a Las Vegas investigative journalist who wrote articles critical of him.
“I am not crazy," Robert Telles said under questioning by a prosecutor. "I am not trying to avoid responsibility.”
Robert Telles abruptly ended his direct testimony Thursday after about 2 1/2 hours in his trial for the stabbing death of Las Vegas Review-Journal journalist Jeff German.
Prosecutor, Christopher Hamner pressed Telles on multiple points of his testimony often talking over one another.
Telles states he was out for a walk and went to a gym during the hours that German was killed and that he’s not the kind of person who could commit such a crime.
He faces life in prison if convicted.
