"Around 21:37 we received several calls from witnesses at our headquarters in Wuppertal who told us that a perpetrator attacked people with a knife at the anniversary event here in Solingen. Three people were killed and a minimum of four people are seriously injured. At the moment we have only four critically injured but that can change over the course of the night."

STORYLINE:
A large-scale manhunt is underway in the western German city of Solingen after three people were killed and at least eight people wounded, five of them seriously, in a knife attack at a festival on Friday night.
Witnesses alerted police shortly after 9.30 p.m. to an unknown perpetrator having wounded several people with a knife on a central square, the Fronhof.
Police said that the perpetrator was on the run, and that they so far had only very thin information on the assailant.
They said they believe the stabbings were carried out by a lone attacker.r.
Police and emergency vehicles with flashing blue lights were seen at the site and several streets were closed off.
Police spokesman Alexander Kresta initially put the total of those seriously injured in the attack at four.
Officers later said it had risen to five.
Kresta added the motivation of the attack was as yet unknown.
