3. SOUNDBITE (English) Rossana Arteaga-Lopenza, Delaware Delegate
"I watched who will be the first female president of the United States – I’m beyond proud. I feel represented. I’m an immigrant child who came to the U.S. at a very young age and now I feel, that even at my 40s, I have room to grow and dreams to get. And it’s an amazing experience."

5. SOUNDBITE (English) Rossana Arteaga-Lopenza, Delaware Delegate
"This is just a special and very historic – It’s amazing. And we have to thank Joe Biden for this. Joe Biden was VP for the first African-American president of the U.S. He, he saved us from Donald Trump and COVID, and he stepped down and he put Kamala Harris as the nominee for the presidency. And it’s amazing."
6. Mid of Krystal Yore-Evans
7. SOUNDBITE (English) Krystal Yore-Evans, Westchester, Illinois Resident:
"I’m excited. I’m excited for the future of America."
Reporter: ("Why?")
Krystal Yore-Evans: "I believe that unity will bring us all together, all races, all religions, and help us to be a stronger unit and have a better reputation overseas."

9. SOUNDBITE (English) Douglas Mangione, Californian Electrician, Union Member:
"I’ve never experienced anything like this. This was absolutely wild. And I think for a political group to turn this around in a month to a completely different, theme, and excitement is pretty astounding. But I’m coming out of here energized. We’re going to go back to our membership, get them energized because, you know, moving forward together, that’s the way unions reach."
10. Zoom in of Douglas Mangione and colleagues
11. SOUNDBITE (English) Douglas Mangione, Californian Electrician, Union Member:
"I love Joe Biden, but I was coming here thinking, ‘my God, nobody’s got any energy. Nobody’s got – Everybody’s down, everybody’s depressed.’ When the president graciously said ‘I’, you know, ‘I’m putting the country first’. You can feel the excitement in Orange County in California coming here. This room was electrifying today. It was it was absolutely beyond belief, beyond my wildest expectations."
12. Mid of crowd celebrating
13. SOUNDBITE (English) Patrice Marshall McKenzie, California Delegate:
"I think that we’re going to see a shift in leadership for women. We’re going to see black women be seen as leaders and not just laborers. We’re going to see doors open for women to lead in all kinds of places, that they had not been able to lead before. Had not been open to lead. Had not had the courage to lead. And I just see opportunity for policy change. You’re going to see a diversity of voices in different rooms than they have been before."
14. Wide of crowd
15.SOUNDBITE (English) Patrice Marshall McKenzie, California Delegate:
"My great grandmother – I was fortunate to have her until I was 25, when she died in 19…In 2002. She was 97 and almost 98 when she died, and even then she told me that I was blessed to be born at a time when I could decide whether or not I wanted to get married, or whether or not I wanted to have children, because she didn’t have those choices. So for her to be able to have been able to see a woman be a serious candidate for president, and a black woman at that, it probably would bring her so much joy."
16. Mid of attendees hugging, UPSOUND (English) "I know that’s right."
STORYLINE:
Many in attendance praised Kamala Harris pushing boundaries as a woman of color running for president of the United States.
