Gaza: Has Israel taken enough action to prevent incitement to genocide? | BBC News

In January, the UN’s top court ordered in an interim ruling that Israel must take all measures “to prevent and punish” genocidal acts – including incitement to genocide – against Palestinians in Gaza, but stopped short of telling it to halt the war.

The highly anticipated hearing at the International Court of Justice was part of a case brought to the court by South Africa, accusing Israel of committing genocide in Gaza.

Israel has rejected the accusation as "wholly unfounded".

Since the ruling, Israel has been accused of allowing inflammatory public statements to continue.

BBC News Arabic has examined such statements and investigates what action Israel has taken to prevent incitement to Genocide.

The Israeli military launched a campaign in Gaza to destroy Hamas in response to its attack on southern Israel on 7 October, during which about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others were taken hostage.

More than 40,430 people have been killed in Gaza since then, according to the territory’s Hamas-run health ministry.
