"I would have – after the (MN) convention, I would have supported Biden. It’s just important that we elect a Democratic president again, so I would have, would have supported Biden. But at the time of our convention, I thought it was important to be uncommitted."

6. SOUNDBITE (English) James Hepworth, uncommitted Minnesota delegate (Reason he’s now committing to Harris):
"There were a number of reasons. One was we’re going down a generation, which I thought we needed to do. One was energy that they were bringing to the campaign. One of the big ones is my grandchildren came to me and said ‘Papa, you have to do this for us.’ And that was one of the big reasons that made me commit to Harris. The added bonus is with Gov. Walz being on the ticket. But just looking to the future and having my 17 and 19 year old grandkids be involved in a political contest that they never were before. And so that was one of the big reasons."
7. Minnesota delegates chanting "USA! USA!"
STORYLINE:
Minnesota is home to the largest number of "uncommitted" delegates attending the Democratic National Convention this week in Chicago.
Eleven of the state’s 75 delegates chose not to support President Biden back on Super Tuesday.
James Hepworth, a 76-year-old retiree from Apple Valley, Minnesota was one of them, though he says he planned to support Joe Biden if that was his only choice.
Hepworth arrived at the DNC in Chicago yesterday saying he’s not committed to voting for the Harris-Walz ticket, despite being a technically uncommitted delegate.
Harris-Walz have won his support for a number of reasons, he says, particularly his grandchildren’s request to "Do this for us."
