"This exhibition is entitled, ‘Simultaneously.’ This is the title and it’s all about the parallel universe we live (in), all of us Israelis since October 7th. At the same time, we are there, we are in Gaza, we are in wartime. And at the same time, we’re here in a kind of imagined routine."

"We found it very surprising that the Israeli flag was the most common emoji used throughout the whole time period. It shows a lot of connection to our nation and patriotism."

"Obviously many of the students were in the military, serving in the military. Others, Israeli Arabs and Palestinians were at home. The atmosphere and the connection within the community was difficult and (there was) quite a lot of friction. And nevertheless, the exhibition is amazing. In my view, it has to do with the fact that everyone, all students wanted to flee, to run away from reality – and concentrate and focus on their studies, on their creation."

STORYLINE:
An art exhibition in Jerusalem visualizes the experience of the Israel-Hamas war and its impact on Israeli society through the eyes of graduate students.
Serving as a marriage between art and design, the exhibition reflects the loss and the challenges caused by the recent turmoil in Middle East following Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack on southern Israel.
One of the works on display at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design’s exhibition was created by simply putting together emojis.
