STORYLINE:
As delegates arrived in Chicago on Sunday for the Democratic National Convention, thousands of demonstrators gathered to protest.
They marched for different reasons – LBQT rights, women’s reproductive rights and above an immediate cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war.
Sarah Bechdel, a protester calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, said she wanted Vice President Harris to know that there are people who are not willing to vote for her if she is going to continue to arm and fund the Israelis and "participate in genocide."
Demonstrations are expected every day of the convention, showcasing divisions on the left in an important week for Harris.
The convention will draw an estimated 50,000 people to the nation’s third-largest city, including delegates, activists and journalists.
The city says it has made necessary preparations with police and the Secret Service. Security will be tight, with street closures around the convention center.
