3. Woman holding sign reading (Hebrew): "Why are they (the hostages) still in Gaza"
4. SOUNDBITE (English) Alon Shirizly, protester:
"To tell you the truth, I expect nothing from this meeting, because our prime minister is blocking the hostage deal. He doesn’t want to make the hostage deal, because if he will make the hostage deal, there will be no government and he will be out of office."
5. Shirizly holding sign reading (Hebrew): "The hostages are in Gaza too many days, the blood is on the hands of the blood government"
6. SOUNDBITE (English) Alon Shirizly, protester:
"I’m very sorry to say (this) because (Secretary of State Antony) Blinken is doing a lot of effort to make the deal and to bring the hostages back, but our government is doing everything not to do it, because of (the) political situation that we are in. In the political – very, very bad political situation in Israel. He’s covered by extreme Kahanist movement that don’t let him do what he should do."

8. SOUNDBITE (Hebrew) Yaacov Godo, protester:
"You can expect good things, (but) I don’t really believe in the determination of the American government. I’m not sure that they are 100% sure that there will be a deal here, and (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu continues to lie to everyone. And this time too, he will twist things so that there will be no deal. And apparently there will be an all-out and difficult war because that’s what he wants."

STORYLINE:
Protesters sat outside Israel’s parliament in Jerusalem on Monday to urge their government to close a deal to return the hostages back as U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken was meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Blinken said now is "maybe the last" opportunity to reach a Gaza cease-fire agreement that would return hostages held by Hamas and bring relief to Palestinian suffering after 10 months of war.

Yaacov Godo, who sat outside the Knesset in protest, said he was not certain that a deal would come.

"You can expect good things, (but) I don’t really believe in the determination of the American government. I’m not sure that they are 100% sure that there will be a deal here," Godo said.

Blinken on Monday was on his ninth urgent mission to the Middle East since the conflict began last October.

His visit came days after mediators, including the United States, expressed renewed optimism a deal was near.

But Hamas has voiced deep dissatisfaction with the latest proposal and Israel has said there were areas it was unwilling to compromise.

Blinken’s trip also comes amid fears the conflict could widen into a deeper regional war following the killings of top militant commanders in Lebanon that Iran blamed on Israel.
