The pilot who tried to hijack a flight in mid-air after consuming psychedelic mushrooms is speaking out for the first time. Joseph David Emerson says that his extreme depression led to his mushroom-induced freakout. In an interview, Emerson says he started drinking to numb the pain of losing a close friend following a massive heart attack. He says he turned to mushrooms and not antidepressants because he was afraid he would be grounded by the airline.
