The third day of the US Democratic National Convention has closed with the nomination of Minnesota governor Tim Walz as the party’s candidate for vice president. Governor Walz accepted the nomination with a speech that blended optimism with criticism of Donald Trump. He said a second Trump term would serve only the wealthy and the most extreme. His family watched the speech from the floor – his 17-year-old son Gus leapt to his feet in tears and applauded, in an emotional moment that’s going viral on social media.
