STORYLINE:
An Israeli strike on central Gaza early Saturday killed at least 15 people including four children and six women, hospital authorities said.
The strike hit a house and an adjacent warehouse sheltering displaced people at the entrance of the town of Zawaida, according to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs hospital where the casualties were taken.
An Associated Press employee at the hospital in the town of Deir al-Balah counted the fatalities as ambulances brought them to the medical facility.
Also on Saturday, the Israeli military issued another mass evacuation of areas in central Gaza, including residential blocks close to the so-called humanitarian zone.
In a post on social media platform X early Saturday, Avichay Adraee, a spokesman for the Israeli military, ordered Palestinians in 9 areas in the urban Maghazi refugee camp and the surrounding areas to move to Muwasi, the humanitarian zone.
He said Israeli forces will operate in these areas in response to alleged Palestinian rocket fire.
While strikes and displacement continue, mediators believe a Gaza cease-fire deal is imminent.
A U.S. official said Friday that Mideast negotiators are working out logistics for the potential release of hostages and distribution of aid as part of any agreement to end the Israel-Hamas war.
The vast majority of Gaza’s population has fled their homes, often multiple times.
The coastal strip, which is just 25 miles (40 kilometers) long by about 7 miles (11 kilometers) wide, has been completely sealed off by Israeli forces since May.
Around 84% of Gaza’s territory has been placed under evacuation orders by the Israeli military, according to the United Nations.
