STORYLINE:
French fans reacted with disappointment as the U.S. men’s basketball team defeated France 98-87 to claim the gold medal in the 2024 Olympic men’s basketball tournament at Bercy Arena.
Led by Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, and LeBron James, the American squad secured its fifth consecutive gold medal and 17th overall, extending its dominance in international basketball.
France’s Victor Wembanyama scored a team high of 26 points but still couldn’t lead his country to victory.
As the Paris Olympics draw to a close on Sunday, France and the United States will face off once again in the women’s basketball final, with the French team trying to avenge their male counterparts.
