"Fortunately there are many tools like VPNs to access but nonetheless is still an obstacle to access information. So it does not harm only me, that maybe I have the knowledge to access or I have alternatives, but there are people that may not know how to use VPN"

"Venezuelan news programs, the major television networks, are not seen because they do not reflect the news reality of the country. So what is left? The emergence of YouTube channels that have been very powerful in the dissemination of information, social networks and peer-to-peer or private messaging. So this is nothing more than an escalation that, from a technological point of view, we did not think it was going to happen. It is also an escalation that, from a communications point of view, is extremely serious."

"This government had never disabled the use of an application, this is new. The period of 10 days sounds very strange. Also, the petition Maduro made to Conatel, the national commission of telecommunications, to ask X a series of requirements is such a novel procedure that it does not exist anywhere in Venezuela’s legal system. That is why we suspect of its legality"

STORYLINE:
President Nicolás Maduro said he has ordered a 10-day block on access to X in Venezuela, accusing the owner Elon Musk of using the social network to promote hatred after the country’s disputed presidential election.
On Friday morning many could not access X from their cellphones without using a virtual private network (VPN), often used in Venezuela to bypass network blockades.
“Elon Musk is the owner of X and has violated all the rules of the social network itself,” said Maduro in a speech following a march by pro-government groups.
Maduro alleged Musk “has incited hatred.”
X, previously known as Twitter, is widely used in Venezuela to see news as they happen, because it feels the gap left behind by many traditional networks that are either blocked or censored.
"Is the first social media where news appear first. The results, on election day, I saw it first on Twitter (now X)", said 20 years-old Snaider Guerra.
The president’s announcement comes after Maduro and Musk exchanged accusations over Venezuela’s disputed July 28 presidential election.
Electoral authorities declared Maduro the winner but have yet to produce voting tallies.
