3. SOUNDBITE (English) Doug Emhoff, US Second Gentleman:
"I was sickened. I was sickened when I heard that the same memorial I had visited was defaced just a few months ago. And while I wish I could say this was a one off incident as a result of one bad actor, it is not, far from it. There is a ferocious surge of anti-Semitism occurring around the world. It is a crisis of anti-Semitism, and it’s unfortunately right here in France as well."

5. SOUNDBITE (English) Doug Emhoff, US Second Gentleman:
"We are seeing this anti-Semitism in our streets, on our college campuses and our places of worship and online. And since the heinous, barbaric terrorist attacks perpetrated by Hamas on October 7th and the taking of hostages, we are witnessing the worst wave of Jew hatred the globe has experienced since World War II."

7. SOUNDBITE (English) Doug Emhoff, US Second Gentleman:
"Anti-Semitism is more than solely a threat to the welfare of Jews. It is also a threat to democracy itself. This hate, this anti-Semitism, is a poison coursing through the veins of democracy and democratic ideals. The United States is deeply committed to working with our European partners to stop malign actors who seek to widen societal divisions and undermine democratic institutions around the globe."
8. SOUNDBITE (English) Doug Emhoff, US Second Gentleman:
"When my wife was sworn into office as Vice President of the United States, and I assume the position of second gentleman, I actually never thought that working on the safety and security of Jewish Americans and Jews around the world would be one of my areas of focus. But she encouraged me to embrace this role. She and I knew that somebody had to speak out, and she knew that I had to take on this fight, no matter how difficult it was. And there have been days like today with honouring what had happened, this tragedy here, that it is difficult to get in front of you all and speak about this topic. But she keeps pushing me to do it, and I’m grateful for her for that."
