3. SOUNDBITE (English) Douglas Emhoff, U.S. Second Gentleman:
"Today, I am proud to announce some of the progress that we have made to promote this Holocaust education. The Biden-Harris administration is working with Congress to support a $2.2 million grant for UNESCO’s international program on Holocaust and genocide education. Once completed, this funding will help UNESCO promote accurate Holocaust education, counter hate and advance United States priorities amid this dramatic surge in antisemitism – as I mentioned, it’s a crisis – and the Holocaust denial that, unfortunately, still persists around the world."

5. SOUNDBITE (English) Douglas Emhoff, U.S. Second Gentleman:
"I’ve been meeting with stakeholders. I’ve been meeting with government officials. I’ve been meeting with Jewish leaders and other faiths leaders to build a cross-community solidarity to combat this hate, because this hate is against all of us, it’s a poison coursing through our systems and we all need to band together to eradicate it."

7. SOUNDBITE (English) Audrey Azoulay, UNESCO General Director:
"Today, UNESCO is stepping up its effort around the world to train teachers because they can help build defenses against antisemitism. They shape critical thinking among young generations and if we give teachers the tools, the means to take on this role, they can also deconstruct racist and antisemitic stereotypes from an early age."

STORYLINE:
The U.S. Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff visited the Paris headquarters of the United Nations’ scientific, educational and cultural organization on Thursday to participate in a workshop on fighting hate and antisemitism.

Emhoff flew in to Paris to lead the U.S. delegation at the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games but stopped by the UNESCO branch to promote some of the work the institution says it is doing to eradicate hate speech.

Emhoff announced the U.S. support through a $2.2 million grant as part of a joint plan by the U.S. administration and Congress to help UNESCO’s international program on Holocaust and genocide education.

"This funding will help UNESCO promote accurate Holocaust education, counter hate and advance United States priorities amid this dramatic surge in antisemitism," Emhoff told the press.
