"We’re in Bladenboro, North Carolina. And, this is the aftermath of Debby coming through here and flooding the Diamond Dave’s Grill. Me and my wife bought this place back in September of last year, so we ain’t quite made it a year before it flooded. "Right now though we’re just going to get things going back up and get back ready to open again and be ready to roll first thing in the morning."

"You know, with the last flood that we had, they really weren’t expecting that much rainfall and it just happened. With this one, we kind of knew it was slow moving, but at the same time, we just didn’t know what to expect because it could turn at any moment. So, you know, it takes a lot of manpower to kind of prepare. And so we just kind of tried to wait till the last minute until we knew we had to get stuff out."

"It’s a small town and we have a lot of good neighbors and support here. So, once people heard the flood coming, there was 20 people here last night trying to help, you know, finalize everything and get everything moved. So, we’re just doing the best we can do."

"It was scary not knowing when the rain was going to stop. That was really scary. We are waiting for the water to go down so we can help everybody get their stuff cleaned up and get back in their buildings and see what damage is done. The drains are working pretty good right now. The water’s going down really fast. We’re just praying that we don’t get any more rain."

STORYLINE:
Standing water a few feet deep covered parts of downtown Bladenboro, North Carolina Thursday morning after heavy rainfall from tropical storm Debby.
Many townspeople helped fill sandbags on Wednesday before up to 3 feet (91 centimeters) of floodwaters backed into the downtown overnight. When the sun came up, water could still be seen bubbling out of manhole covers.
"It was scary not knowing when the rain was going to stop," said Amanda West from Bladenboro. "We’re just praying that we don’t get any more rain."
Emily Dowless, who co-owns furniture store Market on Main, said 20 neighbors and friends helped moved items from the store into trailers and up off the floor in anticipation of flooding. She said about 3 inches (8 centimeters) of water made it inside the business.
“If the worst is over, that’s great,” she said. “But again, we are expecting more rain, so we’re just going to kind of play it ear. Make sure we’re taking care of all of our neighbors and that all is well.”
