STORYLINE:
Hundreds of mourners gathered on Thursday in the southern Lebanese village of Jwayya for the funeral of a civilian and a Hezbollah militant who were killed in an Israeli strike a day earlier.

A drone missile hit a motorcycle in Jwayya, in the Tyre district, on Wednesday, killing a civilian man, Mohammad Shumar, and Hezbollah member Hassan Jishi.

Their coffins were carried on mourners’ shoulders through the streets of the village during the funeral.

With fists raised in the air, angry mourners chanted slogans against Israel.

Israel and Hezbollah have exchanged near-daily strikes for the past 10 months against the backdrop of the war in Gaza, but they have previously kept the conflict at a low level that had not escalated into full-on war.

Since then, Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon have killed more than 500 people, including around 100 civilians, in Lebanon.

On the Israeli side, 22 soldiers and 25 civilians have been killed.
