Israel braces for potential Iranian retaliation after assassinations | DW News

Israel is stopping air force personnel from traveling abroad because of fears that an attack from Iran or one of its allies is imminent.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant says Israel is in a state of "vigilance and preparedness". Tensions have been mounting in the Middle East over the killings of leading members of the Hamas and Hezbollah militant groups.

The US has announced that it’s sending a guided missile submarine, war ships, and fighter jets to bolster Israel’s defenses, in a move seen as a warning to Iran.

The White House also said on Monday that US intelligence indicates that an attack by Iran on Israel was increasingly likely in the coming days.

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has vowed that his country will retaliate after he blamed Israel for the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran last month.

Israel has neither confirmed nor denied that it was behind the killing of Haniyeh, but the Israeli government had previously pledged to kill him and other top Hamas officials for their role in the group’s October 7th terrorist attacks.
