2. SOUNDBITE (English) Rhonda Smith, Mount Holly, New Jersey:
"I am very excited about the topic of Governor Tim Walz. He’s a walking hug. Who can’t love somebody that gave free lunches to all the children in the state. Once again, Vice President Kamala Harris shows that she’s ready to lead, making her first large decision and choosing a wonderful running mate."
3. Walking shot of voters in a line
4. SOUNDBITE( English) Zach Dowhower, Pennsylvania Voter:
"I’m actually really excited. It was actually, I was hoping you’d think. So I’m really excited for the campaign. I think he knows how to communicate really well."

6. SOUNDBITE (English) Dennis McLaughlin, Pennsylvania Voter:
"I’m happy. I hear he’s an educator and works in the school system. Wants to make a change for this country for the better. I’m very concerned about what’s going on with the environment and lots of things, but I’m happy with the choice. I did, like Shapiro though. (Reporter: And obviously, are you from Pennsylvania. Yes. Are you sad a little bit that your governor did not get, chosen?) A little disappointing, but I’m not really happy with his issues with Gaza."

8. SOUNDBITE (English) Rhonda Smith, Mount Holly, New Jersey:
(Reporter: Is is disappointing the governor of Pennsylvania was not picked?) "Absolutely not. It means that we get to keep the top of Pennsylvania blue, and that he gets to enact on the state level, the things that Kamala and Governor Walz will be enacting on a nationwide level. So we’re excited to keep him here for another few years."
9. Long line of voters
10. SOUNDBITE ( English) Zach Dowhower, Pennsylvania Voter:
(Reporter: Now obviously Gov. Shapiro was one of the finalists. Is it disappointing that he did not, did not get it?")
"No, I, I think he’s been a great governor, and I think that, he’ll continue to be a great governor. And, I think that’s all we can ask for."

STORYLINE:
Voters outside the arena Philadelphia where Vice President Kamala Harris and her VP pick, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, are scheduled to hold a rally Tuesday are cheering his selection.
One voter said he was not disappointed that Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro wasn’t Harris’ pick.
"I think he’s been a great governor, and I think that, he’ll continue to be a great governor, said Zach Dowhower. "And, I think that’s all we can ask for."
Harris said in a post on social media that Walz has “delivered for working families” as a governor, coach, teacher and veteran. Walz called it “the honor of a lifetime” to be Harris’ vice presidential pick. The two will appear together in Philadelphia at an evening rally.
In choosing the 60-year-old Walz, Harris is elevating a Midwestern governor, military veteran and union supporter who helped enact an ambitious Democratic agenda for his state, including sweeping protections for abortion rights and generous aid to families.
It was her biggest decision yet as the Democratic nominee and she went with a broadly palatable choice — someone who deflects dark and foreboding rhetoric from Republicans with a lighter touch, a strategy that the campaign has been increasingly turning to since Harris took over the top spot.
