STORYLINE:
An explosion in northern Israel struck a highway as air sirens blared on Tuesday.
An eyewitness claimed he saw a kamikaze drone striking near him on the highway.
Footage by the Associated Press showed police gathering near a new crater in a highway in the area.
“I was in my car, saw people standing here, then I saw a drone about six meters overhead, not very high up at all, very low, it flew right over me, then it exploded here. One and a half meter aircraft," said Avi Azran, an eyewitness.
An Associated Press journalist also saw a drone flying.
Earlier, Lebanon’s Hezbollah launched a drone attack, wounding two people, in response to the killing of one of its fighters in an Israeli airstrike.
The attack did not appear to be linked to Hezbollah’s vow to avenge the killing of one of its top commanders in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut the previous week, which has raised fears of an all-out war.
Tensions have soared following nearly 10 months of war in Gaza and the killing last week of a senior Hezbollah commander in Lebanon and Hamas’ top political leader in Iran.
