STORYLINE:
Passengers at Beirut’s Rafik Hariri International Airport were affected by flight disruption on Monday as fears of an all-out regional war grow.
Turkey and Japan became the latest countries to urge their citizens to leave Lebanon following last week’s airstrike in Beirut that killed a top Hezbollah military commander.
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah vowed the group will retaliate for the killing.
Fears of an escalation in the simmering conflict between Hezbollah and Israel have prompted some airlines to cancel flights to Lebanon.
Some international flights were canceled while others were delayed, leaving passengers waiting at the departure terminal.
Syrian passenger Adnan al-Shheikha said he has been at the airport since midnight, adding that his flight was delayed multiple times.
Israel and Hezbollah have exchanged near-daily strikes for the past 10 months during the war in Gaza.
In the southern Beirut neighborhood of Dahiyeh, businesses opened even next to the site of last week’s Israeli strike that killed Shukur.
