And I don’t want to give it up to some kid that is, like, regimented in a gym and, yeah, it’s scary because skateboarding was always about the freedom and about the expression and the deviance of skateboarding, you know, and doing it your way.”

7. SOUNDBITE (English) Dallas Oberholzer: “I’d set my goals for Paris, and I realized that I needed to be headstrong. So I chose to go the old ways and look for some ancient teacher plants. And I found that in the jungles of Peru.”

10. SOUNDBITE (English) Dallas Oberholzer: “I was there to prepare myself as a warrior mode. You know, I was prepared to say to the shaman, like, get me ready, you know, like, I want to come to this next event full power. Like, what else can I do? And when it’s the send off, basically, you get a send off. And I could feel myself, you know, like, just like ready. And I’ve since felt in many ways, like, injury free and just a lot stronger in my mind and possibly my body and my peers have all noticed my skateboarding is improving and that’s all I really want — to improve my personal abilities and skateboarding. And it’s just shows that you need to work on your mental health and, yeah, just dig deep and go out there and explore.”

“I was seeing dragons chained up underground, like. I could see dragons, ancient dragons that were restrained and held back. I had visions of like (a) falcon and and being a falcon and being like, just like you’d see it the start of these buildings — you’d see a badass falcon just folded up, ready to fly. Yeah. Supercharged. I mean, it’s obviously what saw me through the last year or so, you know — traveling and being able to improve my abilities skateboarding”

“Now my Mum’s coming to this one. So I better practice. Mum’s coming. And like she says I got to have that one magic trick, and I’m still working out what it is. But pressure’s on. Like mom’s coming, with my sister. So that’s going to be incredible. You know, they couldn’t come at the last Olympics. And what a rad thing to have your mom come visit, like in Paris, you know? So no pressure. That’s about the only pressure I feel right now. Once again, I’m not gonna get a medal. I just got to be my personal best. And, yeah, maybe it’s also just doing it for the old geezers out there that also want to know that, like, you know — inspire a few people to step back on a skateboard or never give up.”
