4. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Badr Abdelatty, Egyptian Foreign Minister:
"I expressed a complete rejection of the policy of assassinations, the violation of other countries’ sovereignty, and the fuelling of conflict in the region. And I emphasised the importance of rallying support to stop this dangerous escalation in the region and to prevent the situation from spiralling out of control and dragging the region into a full-scale regional war."

6. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s Foreign Minister:
"We also emphasised the necessity of avoiding an explosion of the situation in the West Bank as a result of the settlement policy and the provocative policies that are systematically carried out by herds (groups) of settlers. We also stressed the importance of working towards implementing a two-state solution, not just talking about a two-state solution and engaging in endless negotiations (about it). But we’ve highlighted the critical importance of implementing the two-state solution and ending the occupation."

8. SOUNDBITE (Turkish) Hakan Fidan, Turkish Foreign Minister:
"I once again condemn Israel’s despicable act that was committed in Tehran. I respectfully commemorate Martyr Ismail Haniyeh, one of the important figures of the Palestinian cause. This assassination clearly shows that Netanyahu does not want peace. Netanyahu wants to set the entire region on fire. What Israel is pursuing is violence and expansionism."

10. SOUNDBITE (Turkish) Hakan Fidan, Turkish Foreign Minister:
"We are conducting intensive diplomacy under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. We are closely following the process in which Israel is being tried at the International Court of Justice. We had decided to intervene in this case, as you may recall. We will hopefully submit our application file to the court on Wednesday. The path to peace in the Middle East is through the establishment of a Palestinian state. Our Palestinian brothers should have an independent, sovereign, geographically complete, separate state with east Jerusalem as its capital. This is their most natural right."

STORYLINE:
Leaders in Egypt and Turkey are exhausting all avenues possible to prevent Israel’s war in Gaza from becoming a wider regional conflict, the Egyptian and Turkish foreign ministers said on Monday at a joint news conference in Cairo.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held talks with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan on Monday.
They discussed the crisis in Gaza, the situation in Libya and Sudan, the turmoil in the Red Sea, and issues in Yemen.
The ministers said they also discussed combating ways to reduce tensions in the region, especially ones emerging from the Israel-Hamas war.
Both countries share the same vision in achieving a ceasefire in Gaza and condemned recent assassinations in the region, including that of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.
Abdelatty said that it’s important to achieve, not only discuss, the two-state solution to the Israeli–Gaza conflict, to bring stability to the region.
He also warned against provocations emerging from the war in Gaza that could lead to miscalculations and plunge the region into a full-scale war.
