"(Carlos Alcaraz) He’s very young and we love him but also like very much Djokovic because he’s at the end of his career and he’s very brilliant. So we were like of course very fond on Alcaraz but, yes, we have to recognize that (Novak) Djokovic was better today and I’m happy for him because he’s at the end of his career. He really wanted to win this match."

"They were always both of them very, very tight, but at the end, Djokovic – it was always decided in the tie breaks. But it was very nice."

"I am a little disappointed of course, but at the end it’s a silver medal, so it’s not that he lost, and he’s very young. Of course our little heart is with him, but I think we will celebrate anyway. It’s a silver medal and it was a very good match."

STORYLINE:
Tennis fans at the 2024 Paris Olympics shared their reaction after tennis player Novak Djokovic won his first Olympic gold medal by beating Carlos Alcaraz in the men’s tennis singles final.
"Djokovic was better today and I’m happy for him because he’s at the end of his career," said tennis fan Mireia Morera.
Sunday’s victory makes the 37-year-old from Serbia the oldest man to triumph in the event at the Summer Games since 1908.
It also gives Djokovic the last significant accomplishment missing from a resume that includes 24 Grand Slam titles and the most weeks spent at No. 1 in the rankings.
The final was a rematch of the Wimbledon final that Alcaraz won.
The 21-year-old from Spain was trying to become the youngest man to win an Olympic singles gold medal in tennis.
