STORYLINE:
As the hot Roman summer intensifies, the Eternal City consolidates its status as Italy’s gelato capital, with a surge in artisanal gelato consumption reflecting both tradition and innovation.
Tourists and locals alike cool off with a gelato as soon as summer arrives.
Some eat gelato in cups with dollops of whipped cream on top, while there are those who favour eating it in a cone, licking it while walking down the street.
Recent analysis from the Italian Gelato Makers Association says Rome is the top city in Italy for gelato consumption, with a 14% increase over the past twelve months.
According to the same data, in 2023, foreign tourists increased their spending on gelato in Rome by 5%.
