STORYLINE:
Dozens of people gathered in the southern Lebanese village of Chamaa on Friday to mourn the loss of a Syrian family killed in an Israeli strike.
The Lebanese Health Ministry said the four killed in Thursday’s airstrike were Syrian citizens. The ministry said five Lebanese citizens were wounded in the same airstrike.
"The mother and her three children, they were in pieces. There were no signs. We had to identify from their legs and their hands to collect the pieces to know that we have four victims," said Moussa Shaalan, the Commissioner of the Disaster Unit at the Islamic Risala Scout Association’s Health unit.
The family of four were a mother and her three sons – two children and an adult. Her eldest son worked for Haidar Haidar.
The family escaped from Idlib in Northern Syria from Syria’s 13-year civil war to southern Lebanon settling in Chamaa.
“They are people who escaped war from Syria and their fate was here. They were children. Their father is dead. They are orphans. Their fate was that," he said.
Israel’s attacks have killed more than 500 people, including 90 civilians.
