“Today we’re at the phase of the fire where we’re doing shelter in place. That means we go up into the burn zone and we feed and water the animals. We do that every other day, and we keep track of that so that the animals are taken care of.”

6. SOUNDBITE (English) Norm Rosene, North Valley Animal Disaster Group:
“Besides just taking care of the animals. A lot of times we’ll fix fencing because the fencing will be knocked down, and if we just make a little repair and kind of prop something up, we can keep the animals where we want them and not let them get away. So we do that whenever possible.”

8. SOUNDBITE (English) Norm Rosene, North Valley Animal Disaster Group:
“Today we had a hot spot next to a barn. It was kind of hidden, so no one really saw it, but it was starting to smolder and right on top of it was a wooden gate. So if that started to burn, it was only about 6 or 7ft to the whole barn structure. So we took a little bit of our, our animal water, and we put out that little fire and stirred it up to make sure it didn’t, didn’t turn into more than what it was.”
