3. SOUNDBITE (French) Mathieu Lehanneur, designer of the Olympic cauldron balloon and torch:
"I held my breath because we had verified, tested everything and we were confident but it was the big day and there were thousands of people watching us. I wasn’t relaxed at all, but the most important thing for me is that I discovered the finished cauldron at the same time as everyone else, because this object was too big for us to be able to test it before. If we were to do it somewhere in France or elsewhere, we couldn’t know someone wouldn’t take out their phone, film and post, so for reasons of confidentiality, to keep the surprise, we had never tested it in its entirety."

5. SOUNDBITE (French) Mathieu Lehanneur, designer of the Olympic cauldron balloon and torch:
"It’s the first time that there is a cauldron like this, the first time that there is a cauldron that flies and the first time that there is an Olympic flame that is not a real flame. There were many many firsts. It’s true that from a creative and intellectual point of view, this was a very passionate moment in all its phases. Since the beginning we all wanted this idea to exist and we all started to imagine this balloon floating all over Paris, but there were many many challenges to address: technical, technological, regulations, security."

8. SOUNDBITE (French) Mathieu Lehanneur, designer of the Olympic cauldron balloon and torch:
"They are just objects: an Olympic torch, a small thing, a cauldron of the flame, a bit bigger, and a balloon. They are just objects, but these are objects that need to carry a message, they need to symbolize this particular moment of the torch relay in the Olympic Games, so it was a huge responsibility."

13. SOUNDBITE (French) Mathieu Lehanneur, designer of the Olympic cauldron balloon and torch:
"It was Parisians, French people or even maybe tourists that embraced it. That was impossible to imagine, it’s something too fragile to foresee. It’s like an experiment: You put some emotion, some pride, you find a good place, you dose all the elements and you hope for the best, but an explosion of love like this one was impossible to foresee."

15. SOUNDBITE (French) Aline Le Quere, businesswoman:
"I think it’s very cool. It’s very original, it changes what we were used to seeing. Plus I think it’s made with EDF (Électricité de France), so it’s not a real flame, it’s water: A much more ecological technique than normal, so it’s very cool. I adore it."
