STORYLINE:
Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro vowed to detain opposition leaders on Tuesday as demonstrations continued over the country’s disputed election results.

From a balcony at the presidential palace, Maduro addressed a crowd of supporters demanding the incarceration of opposition leader Maria Corina Machado.

“I tell them, we have held back, we will uncover and capture them all and we will be victorious, once again victorious," he told those gathered.

Venezuela was tense on Tuesday as Maduro and the country’s main opposition coalition both claimed that they had won Sunday’s presidential election.

Machado rallied with thousands of supporters in eastern Caracas and called on the National Electoral Council to release the voting tally sheets produced by every precinct after polls closed.

The electoral council has not released any results from the polling centre level, which come from tally sheets that the more than 30,000 electronic voting machines print after polls close.

It is not obligated to do so, but in previous elections it has posted the figures online within hours.
