"Yesterday, additional events took place that placed the regime of (Venezuelan President Nicolas) Maduro outside of legality. His proclamation as president for the next administration without having a tally sheets. This took place at 11:00am. Then, at noon, the Venezuelan Attorney General initiated a lawsuit against Mrs. Machado (Venezuelan opposition leader, Maria Corina Machado) and three more people. This is to intimidate, by accusing them of being responsible for hacking the election. This is completely the other way around. Then there was a statement by Mrs. Machado, nearly at 9:00pm, when she said they obtained 73% of the tally sheets, which positions them ahead with a difference of over 30 points. Given all this, the president-elect is Mr. González (Venezuelan opposition candidate, Edmundo González)."

For example my appointment was for August 15, but since they said that all people who work at the embassy must leave in 72 hours, we are all here to see if they will give us our passports."

STORYLINE:
The Peruvian government on Tuesday rejected the Venezuelan election results, prompting the closure of the Venezuelan embassy in Lima.

Peruvian Foreign Minister Javier González Olaechea cited developments on Monday in Caracas as being behind the Peruvian government’s decision, including the declaring of president Nicolás Maduro the winner of the election by the country’s National Electoral Council without releasing a tally sheet.

González Olaechea said Peru recognizes opposition candidate, Edmundo González, as the "legitimate president-elect of Venezuela."

The National Electoral Council, which is loyal to the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela, has said Maduro won the election.

The opposition says that González secured more than twice as many votes as the incumbent, and that it has voting precinct data to prove it.

The council has yet to release any figures at the polling station level.

González Olaechea on Monday ordered Venezuelan diplomatic personnel at the embassy to leave Peru within 72 hours, leaving some Venezuelan nationals in the country in a panic.

Some rushed Tuesday to the embassy to obtain passports they had already ordered and were scheduled to pick up at later dates.

However, the embassy announced it had closed.
